Teaching Areas Pediatric Infectious Diseases. Recommended Childhood Immunizations. Use of the microbiology laboratory in assisting the diagnosis of viral infections in children. Research Areas Clinical investigations re. efficacy, immunogenicity and safety of various childhood vaccines; use of combination vaccines in children; respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) prevention, treatment, and studies on the financial burden associated with RSV hospitalization; other viral infections in children. Clinical Interests Viral diseases of children, especially those caused by RSV, influenza, and the enteroviruses. Mycobacterial infections and use of BCG vaccine. Rapid diagnosis of viral infections in children, use of antigen detection and PCR methods in clinical care of childhood illness. |
