Teaching Areas
My primary teaching responsibilities involve bedside clinical work with students and residents who rotate through the Pediatric Emergency Department. I deliver numerous lectures on Pediatric emergency medicine topics to MCG students and residents. I am also a frequent invited lecturer at CME conferences at the regional and national level. Finally, I am co-editor for PREP-Emed, a continuing education vehicle of the American Academy of Pediatrics that is focused on pediatric emergency medicine topics and is published monthly.

Research Areas
My primary research interests are influenza and appropriate antibiotic use. I have participated in a number of clinical influenza research projects with more planned. As an influenza sentinel provider for the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta I monitor and report on influenza activity in the Augusta region. I am also quite interested in the interplay between pediatric emergency medicine and pediatric infectious diseases, particularly antibiotic resistance and meningitis. In addition, as Director of Medical Student Research for the Department of Emergency Medicine I serve as mentor for many of the projects undertaken by residents and students.

Clinical Interests
I am fellowship trained in both Pediatric Emergency Medicine and Pediatric Infectious Diseases and previously served as ID faculty at another major academic center. I maintain my ties to ID through my teaching and research efforts. I am also Director of Georgia United against Antibiotic Resistant Disease (GUARD), a CDC sponsored program to educate both the medical community and the general public on the appropriate use of antibiotics. Finally, I have a long-standing interest in medical mission work in the third world. I have participated in a number of international trips as an MCG faculty member.
