Research Areas
Current research program focuses on two areas: (1) To explore basic processes in the immune response against acute/persistent viral infections in well-established animal (mouse) models, with long-term goals of developing new or improving existing vaccination strategies for the prevention and treatment of viral infections in humans. In particular we use the murine LCMV model to explore mechanisms of viral persistence and the murine influeza model to study development and regulation of immunity in the respiratory tract. (2) To study the role of molecular chaperones in human ilnesses such as cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases. In this study we are using transgenic (knock-in) mice generated in our laboratory deficient in heat shock proteins (inducible HSP70, HSC70, Hsp25 etc.).
