Teaching Areas Physiology, Cariology, Preventive Dentistry, Topics in Oral Biology
Research Areas The major subjects of Dr. Whitford''s research program are the metabolism and biological effects of inorganic fluoride compounds. Areas of interest in metabolism include the mechanisms that determine the absorption, tissue distribution, cellular transport and elimination of fluoride as well as factors that affect these variables. Areas of interest in the biological effects of fluoride include the mechanisms and factors that affect the ability of the ion to inhibit dental caries and to influence the quality and strength of calcified tissues.
